Terrance Melvin, of Newburgh, was arrested following the incident that took place around 2 p.m. Thursday at the school located at 201 Fullerton Ave, according to City of Newburgh Police Det. Lt. Joseph Burns.
The school's Community Resource Officer said the attack took place inside of a cafeteria and caused injuries requiring the teacher to be transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment, Burns said.
Melvin was charged with assault and is being held pending arraignment on Friday.
